Flu and COVID-19 Vaccines
It’s that time of year again!
This year, the flu vaccine is only available in injectable form again. It is recommended for ages six months and older. Because the state supplies our vaccines, we can only give them to patients before they turn 19.
Timing of vaccination: It is ultimately your decision on when to vaccinate your child for flu. However, given the possibility of vaccine-induced immunity waning over the course of a season, our providers recommend waiting until mid to late October for those kids who have had a flu vaccine in the past. CDC information here.
Two doses are required for kids six months to 8 years old who have never had the flu vaccine. For these kids, we recommend getting the first dose on board in September to early October because a second dose will be needed one month later.
If your child has an upcoming appointment with a provider, you may wait until then to get the flu vaccine. You do not need to call us. However, if you’d like to add siblings to the existing appointment time or if you do not have an upcoming appointment, please CALL our office at 509-448-7337, option 2, and we will schedule them. As of 11/13/2024, online scheduling has been discontinued for the season.
The flu vaccine can be given with other vaccines, including COVID. If you have specific questions regarding your child getting vaccines, please call to schedule an in-person or televisit with a provider for vaccine counseling. 509-448-7337 option 2
